VITAL POINTS by JIAN BING NIE
Excited to showcase this suite of paintings from the vital points series focused on historical bank notes portraits. Nie was presenting pictures of his work to a common friend and it immediately captured my attention. The choice of color and the superimposition of Chinese traditional cardinal points, portraits ,social & geopolitical realities creates an extraordinary contrast.
I was even more mesmerized once i found out they were oil on canvases as only a true master could attain such a final composition with a difficult medium like oil.
